After colonization from British Rules in 1947 East Bengal School Textbook committee was formed with a view to develop textbooks. Then in 1954 textbook law was passed and based on this law, an autonomous organization named ”School Textbook Board” was established. Thereafter 1956,1961, and 1963this organization had been restructured in a different manner. After the liberation in 1971, when independent Bangladesh had been established from 1972 to 1977, according to the necessity of the state “Bangladesh School Textbook Board” it has been revised and rewritten the textbooks for grade I to X for all subjects.
In 1981, the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) has been established for developing the national curriculum. Finally In 1983, for maintaining relevance and unity between curriculum and textbooks, Bangladesh School Textbook Board and National Curriculum Development center has been merged and formed the National Curriculum and Textbook Board.
